Day 24

Captains Log Wednesday February 19 21:14 • Mission Accomplished! BaseCamp was a wonderful way to trick myself into developing and implementing more self-discipline than I was previously. I believe discipline is a type of psychological muscle that needs to be exercised or else it will wither.

BaseCamp also gave me a “why”. Why am I not drinking? Why I am not [insert fun/unhealthy behavior]? Being a former athlete I never had to deal with this predicament. Now I don’t a race coming up. I don’t have Conference meet in 2 months. BaseCamp helped me realize the power of having a “why”. Now that it is over, I need to reevaluate what my new “why” is going to be and what are the action steps necessary to accomplish said why. Then all I have to do is slap on some timelines and go crush it :)

I will be writing a more detailed debrief of my BaseCamp experience later this week, but until then go watch House of Cards! IT IS SO EPIC!! Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

Recharged by a short nap and some Spark, we headed to Rainey Street for a going-away party (friend is moving to Kuwait) at Bar 96 and then some sweet potato fries at Javelina (these were so epic).

Finally, we ended the evening with a birthday party for one of Karen’s close friends, Melissa, at a fantastic Mexican restaurant downtown called Garridos. Food was great, atomsphere was fun and the check was cheap (not drinking really helps). With only four days left of BaseCamp, I can feel the impact on not only my physique, but my psyche. Day 16

Captains Log Tuesday February 11 22:09 • 16 Days of BaseCamp and I haven’t had any huge lapses, only 8 days left. The contraction of time when you have goals and are focused on producing a certain outcome is a unique and empowering feeling. When I see grinder WODs with preposterous numbers I break these sets down into mini-sets that I know mentally I can do. Always opt for what is mentally easier, even if it isn’t the “fastest” way to do the WOD. The reason for this is that you can almost always go farther when you are mentally strong than physically strong. It sounds corny, but the old adage, Mind Over Matter, couldn’t be more accurate. Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

Day 15

Captains Log Monday February 10 21:29 • The 15th day of BaseCamp and I was on the struggle bus. The weather dominated my mood all day. I needed to be more productive than I was. Not all the days will be successful, but the key is to rebound more focused and determined the next day. Each meal/day is an opportunity to improve myself and strive closer to the end goal. Sometimes the failures are necessary…learn and move on. Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

The day concluded with a great brainstorming session at a tidy little coffee shop on the Eastside called Cenote. It is a pretty legit little spot, but I would try something other than the Almond Latte 😉 Fantastic weekend, fantastic competition, fantastic week…Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

Blueprinted the next steps in a project. Very excited, big things to come :)

Day 13

Captains Log Saturday February 8 22:56 • The 13th day of BaseCamp was punctuated by my second CrossFit competition, Couples Therapy. It was a ton of fun! I had an incredible time cheering on friends and getting dominating by HSPUs. I teamed up with my accountability partner (Karen), which also made the experience that much more enjoyable.

I love the idea of competing because you are naked. There are no excuses, just pure raw performance. No mulligans, just you v you. I enjoy this feeling (although it can be intimidating and uncomfortable at first). I think competition provides a mirror to truly see who you and where you are, and I think looking in the mirror every now and then can be incredibly productive :) Upward and Onward. Productivity and mental clarity was high, but it went next level when Karen introduced me to Catalyst…Holy Sh*t! I absolutely murdered my WOD. I only chose the Basic BaseCamp package so I didn’t get any Catalyst (huge mistake). Out of all the products so far, Catalyst has impacted me the most, bar none (even including Spark, which I love).

Had a phenomenal meeting with a friend about an intriguing opportunity.

Day 10

Captains Log Wednesday February 5 23:44 • Day 10 of BaseCamp was a really exciting and productive day. One thing I was really happy about is the amount of discipline I am finding I have. It is a peculiar thing, but when I am challenged I step up. I think a lot of people do, but the problem is most people don’t challenge themselves and live well within their comfort zone. So as I progress into the Max Phase of BaseCamp it will be with a renewed vigor constantly pushing myself out of that warm bed on a cold morning. Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

Day 7

Captains Log Sunday February 2 23:14 • Day 7 of BaseCamp was a great test of my commitment to my goals and to my accountability partner. The day started off a little rough, but finally hit stride later into the afternoon. The Super Bowl party was fantastic, well the game wasn’t, but hanging out with friends and playing with GoPros is always a great time. Not drinking was a lot easier than I was expecting. Furthermore, I didn’t stray that much nutritionally, but I did indulge in some Rudy’s BBQ.

This weekend has taught me a lot about myself and the human experience. The first thing is that without goals (why?) life is really boring. Two, with goals you are significantly more powerful in every aspect of your life. The third and last thing I learned was that everything is easier and more rewarding when you have an accountability partner. I am ready to crush it this week and close out the Cleanse Phase and slingshot into the Max Phase with more energy, more focus, and more awesome. Upward and Onward. Captain Rahil Out.

Food Log:

Successfully streamed the Super Bowl, with only a few hiccups :) Yay technology!

Day 6

Captains Log Saturday February 1 23:55 • Attend two celebrations and consume no alcohol was the goal for Day 6. The first weekend of BaseCamp descended upon me mercilessly and was conquered with a ruthless adherence to my goals and help from my accountability partner. No alcohol was consumed, but I did over indulge in smiling and laughing (my cheeks are really sore). The celebrations tonight were of epic proportions and I truly enjoyed supporting people I think very highly of. In total, Day 6 was a monumental victory and another step closer to conquering the mountain. Day 4

Captains Log Thursday January 30 23:25 • Day 4 of BaseCamp has descended upon me with a ferociousness I couldn’t conquer. I struggled all day with energy levels and after a photo shoot today I fell past the point of no return, inside the Schwarzschild radius. I ended the long day with a burger and sweet potato fries. Overall, I felt I could have done better with my focus and execution today. However, I was just recently introduced to a really cool concept called anchoring, so I need to revisit my “Why.” Nevertheless, every meal is an opportunity to better myself and attain my goals. My energy levels were lower than normal. I never felt like I was not firing on all cylinders late into the afternoon (around 1800). Mentally I was very creative, but I had a hard time concentrating on some tasks. Overall, not bad and I am blaming the lack of peppiness on the awful weather and ice storm.

Two Positive Things That Happened to Me Today

I was presented with two new business opportunities.

I learned that Daft Punk and Phoenix (two of my favorite bands) were actually in a band together before splitting up to form Daft Punk & Phoenix. They are still very good friends to this day…bananas! All the deets here.
